Dayton Pride is the Miami Valley’s longest running and largest LGBTQIA celebration. Each year it gets more vendors at the festival, more groups in the parade, more community sponsor support, and most importantly – more of our community coming out to show our colors and spread the love!!
Thousands of gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, asexual, transgender, questioning, and queer folks from all over our region and beyond celebrate at Dayton Pride. Thousands more of our family members, friends, and allies come to celebrate and show support. Dayton Pride has become a powerful three-day event featuring Friday evening’s community entertainment extravaganza followed by the .5k Bar Crawl, Saturday’s parade before the festival on Courthouse Square, and the ‘Spikes & Heels’ kickball tourney on Sunday. Beyond that, the weekend is full of other activities such as the Dayton Gay Men’s Chorus Concert and Dayton PFLAG 5k Run/Walk.

Dayton Pride 2024

The month of May is a count down to PRIDE here in Dayton. Due to the construction going on at Courthouse Square this year, Dayton PRIDE needed to find a different venue to hold the event. While many venues were looked at, a street party became the obvious choice. To hold the event in the street right in front of the new Greater Dayton LGBT Center also means many will now get introduced to the New Center at the same time. This year, the main stage will be built in front of the new LGBT Center on St. Clair, by 1st Street.
On Thursday, May 30, at 7 PM. PRIDE kicks off with an interfaith service hosted by the Rev. Adam Wirring at St. John’s UCC and lead by various local ministers and lay individuals to offer prayer, peace, acceptance and understanding as this PRIDE season kicks off.

On Friday, May 31, at 6 PM Pride begins with The Affair on St. Clair as the Street becomes blocked off from traffic at 1st Street to 2nd Street for a wonderful PRIDE celebration block party featuring live bands, the Theatre Lab and headlining the evening is the one and only Rubi Girls! This family friendly event is always fun and growing each year. Do Not Miss It!

On Saturday, June 1st is the main event, line up for the Parade begins at 10 AM on Jefferson Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets. Promptly at Noon the Parade will step off traveling west on 2nd Street to Main Street and turn right traveling one block to 1st Street and then east on 1st Street to the main stage on St. Clair where the Parade will join the rest of the crowd for a wonderful day of PRIDE celebrations and vendors and booths line the street from 1st to 3rd Street celebrating PRIDE. From noon to 4:00 PM, live entertainment on the main stage will include singers, drag personalities, and local government officials, all to celebrate the queer people of Dayton and beyond.

On Sunday, June 2nd is the 9th annual “Running With PRIDE” sponsored by PFLAG Dayton and held at Eastwood Metro Park. Registration for the day begins at 7:30 AM, and the family friendly run/walk begins at 9 AM. (T-Shirts and Medals are ONLY GUARANTEED for participants if you register by May 1st, 2024)

On Saturday, June 8th at 8 PM is the “Save A Horse” concert by the Dayton Gay Men’s Chorus featuring the Grammy nominated gay recording artist, Ty Herndon at the Dayton Masonic Center. This is a very exciting PRIDE season. Happy PRIDE!

Dayton Pride 2023 – United We Can

Planning for Dayton Pride 2023 has kicked off with great zeal. A community meeting was called last month to call for volunteers, committee chairs, and ideas to make Dayton PRIDE bigger and better than ever. Matt Turner volunteered to serve as Pride Chair with Rob Waldron volunteering to serve as co-chair for 2023. Arrone Decadenza has stepped up to chair the entertainment Committee for Dayton PRIDE. While Darryl Bohannon volunteered to chair the Pride parade committee with Hailey Adelaide once again choosing to lead the Children’s planning committees. With all the publicity that has been given to protesters of the LGBTQ+ community lately in other cities, we do anticipate the possibility of additional such people to be present at Dayton PRIDE. Therefore, Jim Garvey was selected to chair our PRIDE Angels this year. The Angels have been present for the last few years at PRIDE. They are folks who will stand three feet in front of protesters with three foot tall angel wings on their shoulder to block the view so people do not have to see such protesters. This year it is the goal to have enough angels to totally surround them so they cannot be seen at all. We may hear them, but not see them, and music should easily drown them out. These folks should be ignored and not engaged in anyway. This is always the challenge of the angels; they must remain quiet and not engage the protesters no matter what they may say. If this is something you think you could do, please volunteer to help the angels and keep Dayton Pride the friendly family event it has always tried to be. To volunteer to be and angel or join any committee, please email info@daytonLGBTcenter.org or call 937.274-1776. You may also join the PRIDE planning committee as they meet the fourth Sunday of each month at 4 pm at the LGBT Center in Downtown Dayton.

PRIDE Confusion and Controversy

There has been much talk and confusion, about the two advertised PRIDE events talking place on at the first of June in Dayton. The Greater Dayton LGBT Center, a 501c3 established in 1976, who has organized and held PRIDE events in Dayton for well over 20 years on the 1st weekend in June, continues to hold PRIDE Events on June 2nd , June 3rd, and June 4th. While virtually all events are free of charge, any and all proceeds from the events go right back into the LGBTQ+ community as they support The Greater Dayton LGBT Center and PFLAG Dayton. The Affair on the Square, the Annual Pride Parade, and Festival at Courthouse Square Continues this long tradition along with PFLAG Dayton’s Annual Running with PRIDE. All in a very family friendly atmosphere.

The Dykes of Dayton, Inc. did begin planning Pride events last year in the Oregon district and again have events planned for this year. They are a relatively new organization in that they did not obtain their 501c3 status until August of 2022. They have a number of events listed on their flyer. If the group truly sought to bring about “Oneness” perhaps choosing another weekend so PRIDE could indeed be felt thorough June and celebrated without a look of divide.

Pride does not halt with the month of June as it continues on July 8, 2023 for Dayton Black PRIDE with another opportunity to embrace and support the LGBTQ+ black and brown communities and promote racial equality for all. PRIDE will move forward as there is much PRIDE in this City and in our people. Dayton Pride will be a great celebration with many of these opportunities for you wish to particiapte. In all ways, Stand Tall, Stand Proud, Stand United, as Untied We Can and celebrate PRIDE all year round as an everyday example.

Dayton Pride 2022 – Here's To Us...

The theme for Dayton PRIDE this year is: “Here’s to us ....(fill in the blank)....” yet the question is, how would you fill in that blank? We are all unique individuals and coming out of the pandemic and other challenges, how will you celebrate? PRIDE belongs to you! We are a diverse community and our PRIDE celebration should reflect our authentic selves so when we say Here’s to us......... We are simply celebrating you!
In the last few months our community has become under attack on many fronts such as HB 616, Ohio’s own “Don’t say Gay bill” that includes, “Don’t Mention Race” or “Don’t Say Trans” all rolled into one bill. Then there is HB454 which would ban safe treatments for our trans community, or HB322 and HB327 to prevent honesty in education and anti-critical race theories to be discussed in classrooms. Our community is being bombarded on the so many fronts it is hard for parents of queer children to not fear for their child’s well being. Therefore, celebrating PRIDE is all the more important. PRIDE has never been about who shares our bedrooms. PRIDE is about our resilience.

Each year at PRIDE we have seen a growing number of parents that bring their Queer kids to Dayton PRIDE and often they have shared with us their fears for the safety and mental well-being of their children. This year in-between acts we are asking our out and proud, doctors, lawyers, and business people to share their stories so all will know it is going to be OK, we are survivors, and we are resilient.

Later that evening The Dayton Gay Men’s Chorus will present in concert, “Flashback” a fun musical retrospective of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and more beginning at 8 pm at the Dayton Masonic Center. At 1 pm we introduce you to a new event for the PRIDE weekend lineup as the Rubi Girls present their “Miss Rubicon Pageant” at The Warehouse at Top Of The Market at 32 Webster Street in Dayton. With this fundraiser each of the contestants will be working to raise $ to show their support of The Rubi Scholarships. Each $5 vote will help them rake in points to add to their performance scores to crown the new Miss Rubicon. It is sure to be a hoot!

Then on July 9th, 2022 we return to Courthouse Square at 10 am for The Dayton Black PRIDE Parade from Courthouse Square to McIntosh Park where a PRIDE Festival will take place. At McIntosh Park there is a fun day of PRIDE celebration planned from 11 am to 7 pm featuring food, fun, and entertainment.

So pull out your PRIDE gear, plan your outfit and show your PRIDE as we celebrate PRIDE as a whole community!

Dayton Pride – Together as One

Dayton will celebrate PRIDE this year “in-person” with three days of celebratory fun. We will kick off the celebration on Friday June 4th, with the Affair On The Square at 6 pm. This will feature the live bands of, Colin Richards and Spare Change, Neo American Pioneers, Taylor, and closing out the night, The Rubi Girls. Chairs will be set up in front of the stage so we will all remain socially distanced and masks will be required, but this inconvenience is a small price to pay so we may all be able to celebrate together.

On Saturday June 5th beginning at 10 am is the “Reverse Pride Parade.” While we could line people up for a regular parade in lines and columns to allow social distancing, we cannot control the spectators on the sidewalks. So the safest way is to do our “Reverse Pride Parade” again this year. What do that mean? This means that any would be marchers or parade floats, we place them on the sidewalks as a static display, and ask all spectators to decorate their cars as PRIDEFULLY as they wish and simply drive down Second Street from Patterson Street to Main Street at the posted 5 mph speed limit, obeying all traffic signals, and slower pass each display. Our parade people will come out to your vehicles to personally hand any givea- way items directly to you all while wearing masks for everyones safety. Once the driver gets to Main St, they may circle around if they wish or perhaps go find their parking spot for the festival at Courthouse Square! Beginning at Noon to 4 pm is our Annual Dayton PRIDE Festival at Courthouse Square. Again, we will have chairs all in front of the stage so folks will not stand in one huge group to watch the stage but spread out in a socially distanced fashion. Masks will be required all day while on the Square. All food and drink will be relegated to our new Food Court and Beer Garden on Third Street, when you are finished eating and drinking, you may pull your mask up and join us on Courthouse Square for a full day of fun and entertainment until 4 pm. On Sunday June 6th beginning at 9 am is PFLAG’s Annual Running With Pride 5k Run Walk. Registration for the race is still open until May 22nd. Race Day Registration will be available - Sunday 6/6/21 @ 7:30am (No guarantee of t-shirt, participation medal, or goodie bag if you register on the day of the event)
